Know the Cuts and How to Cook
Beef
When grocery shopping for beef, it’s important to understand the various cuts available, such as ribeye, sirloin, and chuck, each suited for different cooking methods. Always check color and texture with no moisture in the packaging. Fresh beef should be bright red and firm to the touch.
While steak tartare (hamburger) is consumed raw, meat carries risks of foodborne illnesses, so it's crucial to source high-quality, freshly ground beef.
For safe storage, keep beef refrigerated at temperatures below 40°F (4°C) and use it within a few days of purchase, or freeze it for longer preservation.
Additionally, always follow proper food safety measures, such as washing hands and surfaces after handling raw beef, to prevent cross-contamination and ensure safe meals.
